“We do about 12 stereo procedures per week and save at least 10 minutes per case because the need to wait for a free mammography unit to obtain the specimen radiograph has been eliminated.

Additionally, our pathologists request that we separate the biopsy cores containing calcifications into a separate specimen container from those that do not contain calcifications. This previously necessitated carrying the specimen to the monitors at one of our workstations, whereas we are now able to perform this task directly from the CoreVISION monitor without leaving the procedure room.

In addition we have found that specimen calcifications are actually easier to visualize on the CoreVISION monitor than on the mammography unit technologist monitors, which improves our efficiency and decreases the time needed to determine the adequacy of a specimen. Not only do we save time with CoreVISION, the procedure becomes shorter and therefore better tolerated by our patients.

We also are no longer required to keep a mammography unit free for specimen radiographs during procedures, which was previously disruptive to our usual mammography schedule and was irritating to patients waiting for mammograms. The CoreVISION specimen images become a permanent part of the imaging record because they are transmitted directly to our workstation  monitors and subsequently archived into our PACS system.”
